Quakopolis [Quake Map] (2020)

After playing through the game’s single player, I was tasked with using the very same principals and design philosophy to make a single player level of my own – using the Quake level editing tool Trenchbroom. Throughout the process, I learned invaluable lessons about framing things in a 3D space using good sightlines, how to utilize loops in an effective way in level design, and how to solve the ‘door problem’. (preventing players from using room entrances to camp enemies) As working within pre-existing level design structures is an essential skill to working with others as a level designer, I think this experience was a cornerstone to my growth as a designer.
